I was a little surprised it got so many awards. I love Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena BC, so expected to love it more. But perhaps it seemed a bit over hyped. Some US actors get it right with the British accent --- Renee Zellweger's very posh accent in Bridget Jones was great, just right for the role.Gail Is This Mutton?https://www.blogger.com/profile/16624214724309633433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32177878.post-63420213003265884472012-02-17T22:57:47.113+00:002012-02-17T22:57:47.113+00:00First of all...I've been away awhile and you&#...First of all...I've been away awhile and you've exchanged boobs for ketchup. And I still love it!! Very witty.

Second: I've always wondered what the British think about American actors portraying British accents. I remember when I directed "The Secret Garden" as a senior in high school what a witch I was about the actors getting it right. But sometimes I think that, compared to actual British actors like Colin Firth and Kate Winslet, they just sound...like they're trying too hard.

Third: I've never head of The Big Year but now I'm adding it to my list. And I was so eager beaver to see The Iron Lady but perhaps I'll just wait for it to show up on Netflix. I was wondering, though, how you felt about The King's Speech. I just watched it last weekend (I know...I think the last time I actually went to the movie theater was 2004) and I really loved it. But maybe the British not so much?Allysonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05536029582533052135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32177878.post-92232501209222113812012-02-14T20:19:59.399+00:002012-02-14T20:19:59.399+00:00Hello my darling,

Ugh, that Ann Hathaway film looked just awful. I do look forward to seeing Meryl Streep's performance, though I share your ambivalence about being asked to empathize with the real-life woman. I can't stop myself from putting in a plug for "The Artist" -- it does break your "no subtitles" rule, but there is very little text, it's large, and I thought the film was just delightful! Thanks for "vetting" these films for us.AnPhibianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14308541800877192868noreply@blogger.com
